Battersea Dogs & Cats Home - Clinic Kennels
London SW8
Refurbishment and fit-out of four derelict railway arches to provide clinic kennels for post-operative dogs.
These arches were previously unoccupied and in a very poor state of repair, asbestos ridden and badly leaking. After a complete strip-out, the works involved construction of new floor slabs, drainage, substructure piling, curtain walling/glazing to both sides of each arch and the insertion of a new mezzanine structure above the clinic kennels to each arch to provide office accommodation and general ancillary spaces.
Each arch is arranged as 8 kennels plus 4 shared runs, although this arrangement is flexible with the possibly of providing a maximum of 12 kennels per arch i.e. a maximum of 48 kennels in total.
All the kennels are constructed using stainless steel framing with glazed screens and resin floors all carefully sealed for maximum infection control. The glazed kennels are arranged down each side of each arch with a central linear island unit housing sinks, equipment, storage and computer facilities. This central island unit also serves to screen off each wing of kennels from each other - this serves to prevent dogs from being to see each other which in turn helps keep stress levels down.
